Business Development Manager

The evolution of the West Australian market over 2015 and 2016 has seen some drastic contraction. Earlier, the more prosperous years were luxurious ones, where demand often outstripped supply; and all we required was some good order-takers. Not so in 2016.

The role of BDM for this company has shifted since conception. It was initially considered a more junior role, but as the market has matured this local software manufacturer and distributor has decided that they need a more high-level executive, one sophisticated enough to make a convincing story. A story about commercial advantage, software to meet the need of greater efficiencies.

The software is around workplace efficiencies and the management of human incidents, traditionally focussing on the mining sectors. Strangely enough the company is doing well, and so we are talking enhancement rather than walking on water.

The drift is that we will accept resumes from sophisticated sales executives who may not have the technical background. What we cannot get around is the need for superlative interpersonal skill and communication skills. A track record, therefore, in successful selling is a must.

The remuneration is generous, and the working conditions civilised. Its Perth based. No, we will not sponsor you from overseas; apologies-this client is a very risk intolerant business, so we need to know your reputation-or at least their agent does.

Software Quality Assurance Manager

Australian owned and operated, this vibrant multifaceted business has at its heart a suite of ERP software designed to support and lift their client base into sustainability, efficiency, and profit.

These suites include business intelligence, mobile applications and content services.  It has a strong base of customers across a range of industries, including a significant share of the mining and energy market in Australia and a steadily growing base of overseas customers.

Tech includes C#, MVC, ASP.Net, Web-Forms, Entity Framework and SQL Server and cloud (Microsoft Azure) and mobile platforms.

An opportunity exists for an experienced Software QA Manager, ideally with a product background, to manage the QA team and ensure the teams objectives are achieved by the application of best practice and the introduction of test automation technologies where appropriate.

As the QA Manager you will;

  • Take ownership of product quality and drive improvements in QA efficiency and test coverage
  • Communicate with confidence to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Observe and assess individual performance
  • Lead by example, encourage teamwork, professional skills development and commitment to being a world-class team
  • Provide human resource management of QA staff by conducting staff reviews, hiring staff as required, planning staff inductions and training and approving leave and timesheets
  • Be prepared to be hands on i.e. conduct manual testing, regression testing, user acceptance testing, non-functional testing and assist with investigation into some 2nd tier support issues

Required Skills

  • A sound understanding of testing methodologies
  • Superb communication skills both written and oral English.
  • Strong technical skills e.g. high level of exposure and understanding of software tools and network environments

Highly Desirable Skills

  • ISTQB or equivalent certification
  • Previous experience setting up test automation using Selenium
  • SQL Experience to assist with occasional support investigations

Remuneration and Entry requirements

  • Negotiable, based on qualifications and experience.

Sales Executives

lets go fishing for more sales!

From as early as 1916 IBM realised the importance of education, and saw mature vocational education as a reasonable recompense for the returned service men, and women, after WWII. It certainly didn’t hurt either that trained specialists delivered more in terms of expertise, customer service, and loyalty. Who would have thought ?

Following on from this lead, and, to a significant extent, the other major computing firms having learnt from the IBM experience and invested heavily in training and development. Thus highly competent specialists from Digital Equipment Corporation, Wang, Xerox, and the also-ran’s populated the major business districts of the world, including Perth, Western Australia, where the mining boom was creating quite a global impact.

Human Resources were thus much more abundant, easier to catch, hunt, and deploy…alas, no more! No more training and development, indeed, no more mid-tier to harvest from, just the imports and the old guard are left.
